All About the ChPCUG

The Chesapeake PC Users Group (ChPCUG) is a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization that has been active in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA since 1984.
 
Goals
PC Computer users are assisted through education classes, monthly user meetings, a newsletter, and the opportunity to participate in Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
 
ChPCUG collaborates with all organizations and government agencies interested in advancing computer knowledge for members of the local community.
General Meetings
Monthly meetings consist of question and answer periods and a presentation related to the use of computer technology or computer software.
 
Meetings are held when school is in session at 7 P.M. September through June at the Severn River Middle School, 241 Peninsula Farm Rd,.Arnold, MD 21012
 
Meetings are held in either the Library or the Large Meeting Room.
Newsletter
A newsletter, The Printer, consisting of announcements and articles of interest to the membership is published and distributed monthly September through June.
 
A newsletter archive is maintained and is available at this site, in PDF format (see the "Newsletters" menu link above). Newsletters are available on-line only after a three month delay.

Special Interest Groups (SIG's)
Special Interest Groups or SIGs consist of small group discussions, demonstrations, and the opportunity to share knowledge and skills related to a specific area. ChPCUG currently has three active SIG's:
  • Technology SIG - (formerly known as the Internet SIG) meets monthly to discuss and demonstrate new hardware and software as well as topics related to the use of the Internet.
  • Mid-Shore Computer Users Group SIG - This latest extension of the group services computer users on Maryland's eastern shore.
  • Refurbishment SIG - Volunteers refurbish computers for those individuals, families, and nonprofit organizations that are unable to afford the purchase of a new computer.
Educational Program
Periodically software classes are offered to the ChPCUG members and the general public. An example of the courses offered is an 8-week, one evening a week, Windows XP course.
 
A small fee is charged for the classes to cover the expense of printing class notes. The dates and times of the classes are announced in the ChPCUG monthly newsletter, The Printer, on this web site, and in local newspapers.
Dues & Membership Benefits
Membership benefits include the monthly program meetings, the newsletter, the SIGs and the educational programs. Annual ChPCUG dues are $40.00.
